    Pop Music with Intrigue

Lately I’ve been way into British pop artists like Little Boots and Chew Lips. It’s not much of a change from regular pop, apart from the fact that the vocalists have that lovely accent that makes the songs that much better. The main problem that I have with pop music, however, is that the lyrics always tend to be too damn simple, too damn cliche. Honestly, overused phrases can really destroy a song for me, and I mean, in some terms, British pop really is no different from the mainstream American variety in the lyric department. I thought this up until I discovered Ellie Goulding.

Seriously, this chick has brought on a new love for pop (or folktronica, for specifics) in me that I really can’t describe. Her lyrics can at times be pretty basic boy/girl feeling-related, but for the most part, they’re a penned over a varied mash of topics. Plus, her beats are pretty damn catchy. Check out her album, Lights, if you’re intrigued by this:

There’s also a video for her single, “Under the Sheets” (which I sadly can’t embed) HERE.
